Cucumis anguria
This relative of the cucumber was introduced from Africa into the Caribbean and then introduced into the US from Jamaica in the 1790s. Grown at Monticello and in other fine early American gardens, the tiny young fruit were pickled like cornichons. Drought resistant, prolific, and totally free of all the common pests that attach common cucumbers. Minimum 20 seeds. $4.50 Germination 97%. Packed for 2024.
