A fine buttery salad lettuce flecked with maroon, Philadelphia Dutch Butter was a popular market lettuce grown by Pennsylvania Mennonites for sale in New York and Philadelphia.  It dates from before 1860. Plant 14 inches apart; matures in 40-50 days.
