Raphanus sativus
Purple Plum or Olive Shaped Radish is a rare 17 th century variety notable for its refreshing crispness as a late spring salad vegetable. Over the years it has been selected for a more rounded shape, but in terms of color, flavor, and texture, this is the same radish extolled by Mawe in Every Man His Own Gardener (1779). As a winter radish this variety must be cultivated in cold frames because it is not frost tolerant. The leaves are edible and perfect for stir fries.
