This rare Afro-Caribbean tomato has been grown in Philadelphia since the 1790s and is depicted in several local still life paintings. The vermillion red fruits are more heart or apple-shaped than flat (plate in French). A similar tomato was illustrated in Konrad Gessner’s Historia Plantarum of 1561, thus this tomato has been known to botanists for several centuries. It is an ideal sauce tomato. As a salad tomato balsamic vinegar or salt enhance the flavor. Minimum 25 seeds.
