Jewels of Opar Salad Greens

Talinum paniculatum

This wild summer succulent from tropical America was first described in 1760. It has now naturalized in many parts of the world. Fond of heat and dry soils, Jewels of Opar will thrive in the same locations favorable to purslane.  Its culinary uses are also the same as purslane. The plants form rosettes of mild-tasting leaves while the red seed berries make excellent additions to dry flower arrangements.  The potherb takes its unusual name from a 1918 Tarzan novel in reference to the seed pods. Minimum 50 seeds,    Germination 97%.
