Danzig Pea Golderbse (Złoty Groch)
Pisum sativum
This extremely rare Polo-Prussian “golden” pea dating from 1600s Danzig (Gdnansk), is considered by culinary historians to be the classic yellow split pea for soup. It was mentioned by Fearing Burr in 1865 as common on the American market, although well-known since the early 1700s among the Pennsylvania Dutch because Danzig Mennonites sent seed to Pennsylvania. The highly productive 7-to-8-foot vines require trellising. 30 seeds
