Arachis hypogaea

This rare peanut is the original Old South variety grown since the mid-1600s and until recently considered extinct.  It entered the Caribbean from Brazil (not from Africa as often claimed) and from there moved into colonial gardens across the South.  Plants grow on running vines with small peanuts crowded together inside each pod like cutshort beans. Delicious flavor even when eaten raw.  Grown for us at historic Gunston Hall in Virginia.

~25 seeds per packet.
