Aunt Molly’s Groundcherry
Physalis pubescens
This is the most popular of all the varieties of ground cherries now extant. The sprawling 2-to-3 foot bushes produce an abundance of sweet yellow berries with a slight orange or tangerine flavor. Originally introduced from Barbadoes in the 1700s, this variety was first described by Quaker botanist Dr. William Darlington in 1837. The berries are ripe when the husks drop from the plant. Minimum 25 seeds . Germination 96%.
