Anne Arundel Melon CUC045 Cucumis melo 
Seeds for this rare Maryland melon were brought from Madeira about 1760 by Dr. Richard Hill (1698-1762).  Through gradual selection the melon evolved into a distinct regional variety, taking its name from Anne Arundel County.  Considered a colonial luxury, the melon was depicted in several still life paintings by Raphaelle Peale.
